So, you want to be a young leader?

That is great news as you can bring your knowledge and life lessons to your volunteer section and help drive a great experience for younger people in scouting! We know you’re keen to start but before you do, there are a few bits of essential information and actions for you here. If you need any help or would like to talk to a member of the district YL team drop us an email on young.leaders@bvscouts.org.uk

  1. Please have a read about the Young Leaders’ Scheme. This is an explanation of how it works and what you can do.
  2. Hopefully, you have a section ready to go, but if not, the district Young Leader team can help find a position for you. We have roles across the district.
  3. Once you have decided to be a Young Leader then your parent, guardian or responsible adult must complete the registration with the Young Leader Unit (if this has not already been done, of course).
  4. There are 11 modules of training and 4 missions to complete – which make up your Young Leader belt buckle award – which counts as half way to a BTEC level 2 qualification which you can complete when you are 16 – for free!
  5. The other modules will give you valuable leadership experience and make completing the missions a breeze. The details for the modules are here.
  6. We have sections throughout our district looking for Young Leaders – we look forward to having you on board!
  7. To contact the District YL team or if you have questions, please email young.leaders@bvscouts.org.uk
